Dinu Patriciu (photo) has already collected some of the money derived from the sale of 75% in Rompetrol Holding to Kazakhstan-based KazMunaiGaz, with the remaining sum to be received by the chairman of Rompetrol Group after the European Commission give its approval. "Part of the money has been collected, with the rest to be transferred after being sanctioned by the European Commission, which is scheduled to happen in 45 - 60 days," Dinu Patriciu said on Thursday, at a seminar on energy. He did not specify what the total sum was, but stated that the money secured from the deal would be invested in the expansion of Rompetrol. Asked if he would pay taxes in Romania for the sum collected from the transaction, Patriciu answered that he would not, as the deal was closed between a Swiss and Dutch company, without the Romanian state's involvement. The businessman could collect 2.16 billion dollars or 1.72 billion dollars, if the debts of Rompetrol Group are not included in the calculation. On August 24, Switzerland-based Rompetrol Holding, held by Patriciu, sold a 75% stake in The Rompetrol Group (registered in the Netherlands) to KazMunaiGaz. The group's value was estimated at 3.6 billion dollars. Patriciu added that there were no political pressures behind the transaction with the Kazakhstan-based company, but that the deal, which will allow access to other sources of petroleum, supported the energy strategy compiled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
