23.12.2005, 18:51 16

The general manager of Nestle Romania says the company will attain its turnover and profit targets this year.

Nestle Romania will derive turnover revolving around 82 million euros in 2005, reaching the target set early this year. Turnover growth exceeds 30% in euros, following the appreciation of the domestic currency against the single European currency this year.

"We will end 2005 on higher sales, by 25% in RON. We''ve attained our targets both in terms of the volume of sales and the profit margin," said Nuber, who specified the company''s annual turnover would revolve around 30 million RON (about 82 million euros).

Paul Nuber arrived at Nestle Romania in the spring of 2003 and soon boosted the growth pace of sales.

Among the first moves he made was a change of the distribution system (by expanding the number of distribution firms).

He also improved the management efficiency and motivated the employees. Last year, Nuber made a bet with his employees that, should they manage to exceed the sales target, he would dye his hair green. The objective was topped and the general manager kept his promise.

Nestle Romania is the domestic branch of Nestle Switzerland, the world''s biggest company in the food industry.

In Romania, Nestle sells Joe wafers, Maggi culinary products, Nesquick and Fitness cereals, Kit Kat and Chocapick chocolate bars, as well as Purina and Friskies cat and dog food.

Nestle will become an important player on the Romanian ice cream market, as well, as the Swiss company acquired the ice cream unit of Greek producer Delta Ice Cream, which also has a plant in Romania, in Bucharest.

"We are glad to add the ice cream business to our Romanian product portfolio.

"At any rate, the deal has just been sealed and awaits the approval of various authorities, which means it will be completed as late as next spring," Paul Nuber said with regard to the deal. Nestle''s best known ice cream brands are Scholler and Movenpick.

Though Nestle is one of the main players on the European ice cream market, Nestle Romania''s portfolio does not include ice cream brands, which are brought to Romania by various independent importers.

Nestle''s most important brand is Joe, produced in Romania, in Timisoara. Nestle bought the Joe wafer plant in 2000, from Florentin Banu, who, with the money he got from this transaction subsequently founded the Artima supermarket chain. georgiana.stavarache@zf.ro
