Perfetti van Melle Romania, a member of the Italian Perfetti van Melle group, is investing 2 million euros in the construction of a new production centre in Cluj-Napoca. As of March 2005, the new facility will allow the producer of Alpenliebe sweets an increase in production capacity of over 600%. In other words, at the 800 square metres production facility they will be able to produce a yearly amount of sweets of around 6,000 tonnes, compared with the current 1,000 tonnes per year. This new capacity will be enough to fill 700 trucks each year. "Multinationals in several fields plan to move their production from the west to the east due to the lower employment costs. We are opening the new unit so as to bring new brands onto the Romanian market and to improve current technology," Andreea Dinca, Perfetti van Melle marketing manager, told ZF Transilvania. ZF
