Private equity market expected to fare worse than last year

Private equity investments fellsignificantly last year, with 2010 expected to perform worse than2009, when private equity funds invested 221 million euros inRomania.

"The level of private equity investments in the first ninemonths of 2010 is lower than that recorded in the similar period oflast year, and it is not certain that the last quarter will be asgood as the last quarter of 2009, which saw record amountsinvested," says Irina Anghel, secretary general of the SouthEastern Europe Private Equity Association (SEEPEA), which comprisesthe biggest private equity funds on the Romanian market.
Romanian companies were among the most attractive in Central andEastern Europe prior to the onset of the financial crisis, managingto attract record investments from private equity funds thanks totheir fast growth pace. In peak year 2007, local companiesattracted investments of half a billion euros from investmentfunds. However, the last two years saw private equity investmentscontract significantly.
