The expansion of the Profi store network will bring the company's business to 70 million euros at the end of the year, 33% more against the value seen in 2006, according to estimates of the representatives of Profi Rom Food, which operates the Profi stores. "In January this year, we posted 12% higher sales than for the same period last year," says Caius Crisan, general manager of Profi Rom Food. Investments planned for this year stand at around 10 million euros and target the opening of 10 stores with a discount policy in towns with over 20,000 inhabitants. The hard discount store network Profi, owned by Belgian group Louis Delhaize, has planned to expand by up to 80-90 stores on the Romanian market, at a pace of 10-15 openings a year. The company last year saw a 53 million-euro turnover, an increase of 14% against the previous year, having expanded its network by 2 stores, to 26 locations. Caius Crisan says there are more challenges than opportunities on the Romanian market for a company operating in this area.
