The profile of mutual fund investors has gone through radicalchanges in the ten years since the collapse of FNI (The NationalInvestment Fund). The degree of financial education has increased, and fund investors are less and less willing to risk losing theirsavings.

The number of people with investments in mutual funds topped200,000 in July, a record level for the last decade, after theall-time high of over 370,000 investors was reached in early 2000.More than half the over 200,000 investors currently haveinvestments in money and bond funds, known as conservativeinvestments with a low-risk profile and with yields slightly overthe interests of bank deposits. Over the last 12 months, bond andmoney funds have yielded up to 11.6%, the high hit by BCRObliga]iuni fund. At the opposite end, equity funds, with an up to83.2% yield in the past year reached by BT Maxim fund, managed toattract ten times fewer investors than funds with conservativeinvestments.
