Renault Technologie Roumanie (RTR) launched construction works for its Technical Centre in Titu yesterday, where the vehicles from the Renault Group's design offices will be tested. The project, which was announced in 2006, is estimated at over 450 million euros. The completion of the Centre and the launch of operations are planned for the end of 2009, according to RTR officials. The Titu centre will include 100 test platforms, dedicated to testing vehicles and components. They will allow for vehicles to be tested under extreme conditions: in terms of resistance to cold weather, sun exposure, humidity exposure a.s.o, RTR announced on Thursday. There will be nine types of tracks, with a total length of 30 km, which will test the vehicle's speed and its behaviour on uneven roads etc. The centre will also include a material analysis lab. The buildings will have a surface area of around 80,000 square metres. Set up on the former site of a 330-hectare military air base, halfway between Pitesti and Bucharest, the Technical Centre will join the already existing ones in Aubevoye and Lardy (France), in which Renault continues to invest. The event was attended by President Traian Basescu, Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu, the Minister of Transport, Ludovic Orban, the manager of Automobile Dacia, Franois Fourmont and Renault's deputy general manager for Engineering and Quality, Jean-Louis Ricaud.
