Renault's Titu centre on the finishing straight

Renault Technologie Roumanie, already working on the nextgeneration Logan model, and which has designed more than 50% of theDuster SUV, is starting test operations in Titu on September15.
"The centre in Titu will be officially launched on September 15 andthe first test is scheduled for October," said Anca Oreviceanu,communications manager with RTR.
RTR development entails a 450m-euro overall investments, with thefirst stage worth 166m euros. The investment will be completed nextsummer after all centre tracks are built. To secure funding,Renault transferred almost 50% of RTR to the EBRD, whichcontributed 44m euros in the company's share capitalincrease.
At present, around 160 engineers are working at Titu, with theirnumber set to climb to 300 by yearend, according to companyofficials.
RTR last year registered 89m-euro turnover and the main operatedprojects included tests for Duster model, Renault Twingo model andthe current Dacia range models.
By launching RTR, Renault's second largest development centre afterthat of Paris, Renault places Romania besides countries such asFrance, Italy, Great Britain or Germany, were cars are not onlymanufactured, but also designed.
