Petrom and Romgaz, the two major domestic producers of naturalgas, would be the big winners in case gas prices were liberalisedand would reach a level similar with that at which imports fromRussia are operated.

Theoretically, each company could collect around 750m eurosmore. Practically, though, market specialists and Economy Ministryrepresentatives say IMF's proposal on the liberalisation of gasprices is just a recommendation and that it will most likely notmaterialise.
"It's just a proposal and it needs to be analysed by the NationalEnergy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). If it is viable, we shall seehow we can put it into practice, if not, we won't. There is nothingset, it's just a discussion," explained the Economy Ministryrepresentatives.
Moreover, they specified there was no official talk at theGovernment level, with the proposal exclusively coming from theIMF.
In Romania, internal production gas is sold at a price recommendedby the ANRE, which is two times lower than that of gas importedfrom Russia.
