Scrappage scheme no longer for new cars only, as TiriacAuto sells second-hand cars, as well

TiriacAutoRulate, the second-hand car retail division of TiriacHoldings, at the end of last week became the first second-hand cardealer to allow the purchase of old cars using vouchers issued aspart of the "Rabla" (junk car) scrappage scheme. However, thesecond-hand car dealer offers a discount of just 2,100 RON inexchange for a voucher, compared with a nominal value of 3,800RON.

"The TiriacAutoRulate campaign is a new product for clients who,although they have a car eligible for the car scrappage scheme,cannot afford to buy a new car, opting instead for a used one, butone from a safe source," said Cristina Munteanu, communicationmanager of Tiriac Holding.

The value of the voucher used to acquire a second-hand car,however, drops to 2,100 RON from 3,800 euros for a new car. On theother hand, vouchers are traded at prices of 1,000 to 1,500 RON onthe free market, with prices to fall further after the Governmentadded 50,000 vouchers to the scheme, bringing them to a total of110,000.
