German company Siemens VDO Automotive, supplier of electronic systems for the automotive industry, will invest a further 60 million euros over the next five years in the plant opened in Timisoara at the end of last week. "The plant is the second biggest in VDO Automotive's portfolio and because of this we expect the number of jobs available in the area to skyrocket," said the vice-chairman of the Siemens VDO group Klaus Egger. The company has invested some 25 million euros in a greenfield production facility, developed over a surface area of over 18,000 square metres, which includes offices and production sheds. The construction in Timisoara was erected in a relatively short time - 11 months, initially creating 60 jobs after the first production line had become operational. "Today, about 90% of the innovations in the automotive industry are electronic and software-based. With the new inventions and solutions that we offer, we try to contribute to the safety, economy and comfort of our customers," added Egger.
