Soufflet builds new malt plant

16.10.2007, 22:00 14

Representatives of Soufflet Romania, the branch of the French malt producer by the same name, will shut down the two malt plants it operates in Buzau and Pitesti, after the construction of the third local production facility is completed. "The construction of the new plant has already started in September this year, and we estimate it will become operational in September-October 2008. After we finalise the construction of this plant, the other two will be closed," said Tomas Paulu, manager of Soufflet Romania. Soufflet Romania operates in a rented production facility, the malt plant in Buzau, as well as in the silos in Buzau and Timisoara, held by beer producer Ursus Breweries (the second largest player on the Romanian beer market) while the Pitesti-based plant is held by Girexim Universal. "The new plant will be entirely dedicated to local beer producers, both to companies with Romanian capital and to Romanian branches of beer multinationals," said Soufflet representatives. The capacity of the each of the two production facilities operated by Soufflet in Buzau and Pitesti is around 11,000 tonnes of malt per year, while the new plant will have a maximum annual production of around 100,000 tonnes, ten times as much.
