StartIT produces three viable projects

11.06.2004, 00:00 7

One of the ideas of Radu Georgescu, the main GeCAD shareholder, after he sold the RAV antivirus technology to Bill Gates was to organise an "idea recruitment" project, called StartIT.

Four months and more than one thousand projects later, the head of GeCAD together with his expert team identified three ideas likely to become profitable businesses.

The projects submitted for StartIT were largely about business, web, utility, games and graphics software applications. Most projects, as the GeCAD officials stated, were nothing more than ideas. The company left out a series of applications because they did not have international development potential: ERP solutions, accounting software and other such solutions largely tailored to the legislation and working conditions in Romania.

Three projects turned out to be viable; the young entrepreneurs selected will be able to start their own businesses with the help of GeCAD. "I have not invested any money in these companies, but instead helped them with free consultancy," Radu Georgescu said.

"We want to form a strong industry, so that we can go out on the international markets and say 'It's us, the people who sold software to Microsoft and made other top software products'," he explained without going into further details.

One of the three projects is a graphics engine for game developers to create state-of-the-art products in a $10bn industry. The second project is a software solution that can make online transactions over the Internet secure so as to block frequent instances of fraud, while the third involves a GPS tracking software for companies that require a lot of vehicles.
