SWISS sees 10% passenger increase

29.01.2007, 19:20 8

Swiss air travel company Swiss International Air Lines saw a 10% higher passenger traffic last year in Romania, as compared with 2005, having maintained its number of weekly flights from Bucharest to Z?rich. The company currently has 14 weekly flights from Bucharest to Z?rich, and an 85% higher occupancy rate for this route compared with its average international occupancy rate, 79.8%. This degree of occupancy is also superior to that of other companies operating in Romania. "The number of Romanian passengers has increased hand in hand with the development of the economy and with the freedom to travel abroad, since travel visas are no longer necessary or they are easier to get and this process is better regulated," said Andrea Brezean, country sales manager for Romania and Moldova. The average price of a Bucharest-Z?rich roundtrip is about 300 euros, to which other taxes imposed by governments and airport authorities are added, according to company representatives. "If you compare Romania's progression with that of other states, which have already gone through this stage, I think the price of aeroplane tickets will see multiple fluctuations, given the increase in the number of companies, which will be operating in Romania, as well as the increase in the number of people who choose the aeroplane as a means of travelling abroad," said Brezean.
