Transelectrica earmarks 150m euros for cable to Turkey

27.08.2007, 18:19 6

Transelectrica, the national power transmission company, is set to invest at least 150m euros by 2020 for the construction of a submarine power cable for energy transmission to Turkey and for the development of interconnection points with the network in the Republic of Moldova. The sums are part of the investment programme already unveiled by Transelectrica, which amounts to 2bn euros by 2020, with the largest part, 1.45bn euros, to be derived from the transmission fees levied by the company. The rest of funds will be raised from network connection tariffs paid by economic operators. To develop interconnection points with Moldova, Ukraine and other former Soviet countries would be extremely favourable for Romania, which could import large quantities of power at very good prices. Regarding the submarine power cable, Transelectrica's representatives stated they were in talks with Electrica and Nuclearelectrica concerning the proposal to participate in the feasibility study for the project.
