The two big producers of chipboard in Romania, Egger andKronospan, have different strategies for 2010 and are gearing up tomeet competition, with other players announcing investments.
The Romanian market has seen two big chipboard plants, held byAustrians at Egger and Kronospan, which clearly dominate theindustry, developed over the last few years. They have a cumulatedproduction capacity of 1.5 million cubic metres, which amounts toover 100-150 million euros.
An examination of the two companies' financial indicators for 2009reveals that the two investors' businesses progressed differently.Egger, for instance, with an operational investment made in 2008,was on the rise, while main rival Kronospan, with several years'experience on the Romanian market, saw its turnover decline toaround 548 million RON (130.5 million euros).
