Ubi Soft Romania concluded Q1, 2001 registering 12.533bn lei in turnover, while the same index for the fiscal year 2000 reached 50.625bn lei. Last year's net profit amounted to 8.731bn lei.
Ubi Soft Entertainment is one of the largest producers, editors and dealers of video games in the world. Established in France by the five Guillemot brothers back in 1986, the company has branches in 18 countries on all the continents, (including US, England, Germany, Romania, Canada, Australia, Brazil, China) and is currently employing more than 1,800 people.
Ubi Soft's product catalogue is comprised of more than 1,000 titles for every existing support or support to be released (PC, Sony, PlayStation/PSOne/PlayStation2, Game Boy Color/Advance, DVD-Rom, DVD-Video, Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo 64/Gamecube, Microsoft Xbox, Internet, mobile phones, pocket PCs), covering all types of games (action, adventure, sports, racing, strategy, RPG, children and educational games) currently available in 52 countries.
Turnover registered in the 1999/2000 fiscal year amounted to 1.2bn French francs, 40% higher than the previous year, while net profit amounted to 71.8 million French francs, 75.2% more than in 1998/1999.
Ubi Soft's Romanian branch was established in 1992, as the first productive branch ever opened outside France. A distribution department to handle marketing activities for Ubi Soft Entertainment products was added in 1998.
This department also represents Guillemot Corporation, multimedia hardware and PC accessories producer, as well as maker of game consoles under Hercules and Thrustmaster brands.
Nearly 90% of the employees are involved in the productive activity. The company has teams of programmers, game designers, graphic designers, and testers, which practically cover the entire game creation process.
For those games 100% made in Romania, the local Ubi Soft Entertainment branch acts as a developer, therefore the production and distribution of the game falls upon the parent company.
