Vimetco: Turnu Magurele power station will cost 1.5-1.6bn euros

According to Cristian Wust, CEO of Vimetco, the thermoelectric power station that Vimetco, the Russian-held group that controls Alro will build in Turnu Magurele together with InterAgro group, will have two 660-MW generators and will cost in between 1.5 and 1.6 billion euros, according to the head of Vimetco. Originally, the investment had been put at 1.1-1.2 billion euros. The Russian owners of Alro Slatina aluminium plant have in the past repeatedly announced investments worth hundreds of millions of euros in Slatina, which have yet to see the light of day. The Vimetco representative says it is more efficient to build a new plant than to buy and modernise an existing one. "New thermoelectric power stations need to have the latest technology and meet the highest environmental standards. The most efficient generators are those with capacities that range from 660 to 800 MW. We have opted for two 660-MW generators, because the transport infrastructure does not allow us to make them bigger," said Christian Wust, who was present at the Aluminium Essen exhibition, the largest international exhibition in the aluminium industry.
