Which colleges produce the highest-paid employees?

14.07.2008, 18:39 10

More than 172,000 high-school graduates are now faced with a decision that will shape their lives: going to college and being granted one of 62,000 available places at public and private universities. Therefore, we ask the question: which colleges produce the highest-paid employees? Research by ZIARUL FINANCIAR reveals that graduates of automation and computer science, cybernetics, rare foreign languages and finance and banking can make 1,000 euros per month in their first jobs.
A monthly salary of 1,000 euros for a graduate fresh out of college is quite a large amount considering the net average monthly wage in the first four months of the year stood at approximately 1,200 RON (332 euros).
"Graduates from the cybernetics department of the Academy of Economic Sciences in Bucharest or graduates from the automation department of the Polytechnics University have no trouble earning 1,000 euros for entry level jobs. Still, to have the certainty of a 1,000-euro salary, a graduate generally needs two or three years' experience, which means having worked while in college," says Irina Stoian, HR manager of consumer finance company Cetelem.
Out of the 16,000 students to graduate from the Academy of Economic Sciences (ASE) in Bucharest this year, 1,400 are cybernetics graduates. "Approximately 25-30% of the four-year cycle graduates get a job while still in college. Cybernetics graduates find it easy to get a job at companies such as IBM and Oracle, and start with salaries between 1,000 and 1,500 euros per month," says Gheorghe Rosca, ASE rector.
Software developer Adobe is one of the IT&C employers that offer a 1,000-euro salary for students or college graduates. "Generally, most of the inexperienced young people we recruit are students or graduates from the Polytechnic and ASE. However, this is not the rule. For instance, we have a Conservatory graduate working with us at the moment," says Delia Blajan, human resources manager of Adobe Systems Romania.
Human resources specialists on the domestic market believe that graduates from technical faculties, such as automation and cybernetics, are best positioned for high salaries during the short term.
"Second most likely to get high monthly incomes are, I believe, people who get a job in sales, regardless of their background. At the same time, foreign language graduates of rare and 'exotic' languages are in high demand due to the relatively low number of speakers - Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, Hebrew and oriental languages, can receive a significant monthly income from the outset," says Florin Ochiana, country manager of Grafton Recruitment, a recruitment company that only provides services based on success fees.
