The investment of Czech Republic's CEZ energy group in theFântânele wind farm is starting to generate the first money. InAugust alone, the energy generated by the less than 90 wind millsinstalled at that moment brought the Czech firm around 1m eurosfrom the green certificates it received. In a complete operationalyear, though, the Czech firm would make around 42m euros from greencertificate with the 139 turbines of Fântânele.
"In August, actually the first month when we started receivinggreen certificates, we produced 18 GWh of energy through theturbines that were operational at that time. In August, we had lessthan 90 turbines installed," stated Adrian Borotea, corporateaffairs manager with CEZ Romania.
The green certificates besides mandatory quotas on renewable energyare the mechanism by which investments in energy production fromrenewable sources are supported in Romania.
For the time being, in Romania, for each MWh produced from windsources a green certificate is awarded and after the new lawpromoting investments in the field comes into effect, the number ofcertificates will go up to two.
Investments in the wind farm of Fântânele amount to over 600meuros.
