Dan Sucu, Mobexpert: It's not sales decline that scares me, but the impact over profitability

16.12.2008, 17:39 10

Businessman Dan Sucu, controlling Mobexpert group of firms, the biggest player on the furniture and home décor market, will use quarterly budgets next year as in 2008 the group will not hit its 200m-euro turnover target. "We won't hit the target. There's no way we could because of the disastrous export performance," Sucu told ZF in an interview. "Problems are not necessarily related to the domestic market," said Sucu. The group gave up setting annual budgets and opted for quarterly ones. Thus, for Q1, 2009, Mobexpert budget anticipates a 10% drop, as the exchange rate projected by the company in April stands at 4.2 RON against the euro. Still, Sucu hopes he will go beyond this sales target. Another problem furniture producers will experience next year is related to profitability, already significantly reduced in recent years. "These are special times we're living in. It's not a sales stagnation or even decline that scares me. What scares me is the impact over profitability. Profit margins are seriously questioned at the moment (...)", Sucu says. He has never disclosed the profit margin the group generates and only said he targeted a 10% margin he does not always reach, though. Should the current situation maintain, Mobexpert is likely to close at least one plant.
