New lending boom before Easter

13.04.2007, 20:35 10

Demand for credits experienced a record high before the Easter holidays, with the number of queries about potential clients for banks addressed to the Credit Bureau hitting an all time high at the beginning of April. On Monday, April 2, the Credit Bureau received over 29,000 queries on potential clients from partners in the banking system, which is an all time record. Before granting credits, partner lending institutions ask for information regarding the creditworthiness of a potential client from the Credit Bureau. The number of submitted queries gives an accurate indication as to the number of applications for loans. The previous record, of over 27,000 queries in one day, was in March. This exceeded the 27,063 queries recorded on December 18th last year. The NBR (National Bank of Romania) has not yet published information on crediting for March, therefore, at present it is not possible to see how many credits have actually been granted. "We experienced a significant increase in demand, both for credits and for other products before Easter," says Cristina Micu, marketing manager of ING Bank. The bank also conducted a promotional campaign throughout this period, which in turn has had an impact on sales.
