The Hungarian supplier of technology to telecommunications networks, Shelton Kft., has announced it is interested in investing in Romania. They did not specify the value of the planned investment.

"We want to sell complete installation networks for the GSM and 3G sectors in Romania, with the networks to be fitted, installed and conceived in Romania," says Mundrusz Tamas, general manager of the Hungarian company.

He explained that they would return to Bucharest in no more than three months to clear up contractual details, adding: "We have already talked to all the mobile operators in Romania and with government representatives. We estimate we will start installing networks in Romania within two or three months."

"Orange Romania has held a meeting with Shelton representatives who are looking for opportunities in Romania. We had a meeting at which the two sides introduced themselves and expressed their availability, but so far no decision has been made with regard to any future collaboration," explained Amalia Fodor, PR manager with Orange Romania.

The Hungarian supplier, which already works for Vodafone and Nokia in Hungary, is planning to work at over 1,000 locations in Romania. "We are going to participate in a tender for a location in Transylvania, a location where we plan to have over 300 stations," says the Shelton manager. In Hungary, such a location requires between 500 and 700 employees. Shelton will have two central headquarters in Romania, one in Bucharest and one in Transylvania.

"We want to put the professional expertise we have acquired in Hungary to good use, and the performance of the economy in Romania recently has drawn us here. There are also a lot of Romanian professionals and the fact that they speak several foreign languages is an enormous advantage," Mundrusz said.
