5m-euro capital increase for Ulker biscuits

21.11.2005, 18:59 6

Eurex Alimentare, the production company of the Turkey-based Ulker Group has performed a 5 million-euro share capital increase in September this year, according to the data of the National Trade Registry Office (ONRC). The company officials did not care to provide any information about the purpose of the increase but market sources say Eurex intends to expand its production capacity within the factory it owns several kilometres away from Bucharest. The Turkish group decided in 2004 to stop importing biscuits from Turkey for the Romanian market and replace the imports with direct local production. The investment was 40% funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. According to the information on the official website of Ulker, one of the group''s objectives for this year is about investments outside Turkey, in Romania and Egypt. The self-funded investment stands at 10 million euros. The biscuits market has become a very crowded place lately, with more and more companies tapping into this segment with either production operations, such as Supreme Chocolat (Ulpio), European Drinks (Zoo), Unilever (Delma, made by Dobrogea Group), or through imports, like Nestle (Nestle) and Parmalat (Grisbi).
