The general consolidated state budget closed the first quarter of this year with a surplus of 0.68% of GDP, amounting to some 610 million euros. Out of the total revenues equivalent to 6.6 billion euros, the authorities spent 6 billion, while local budgets were thriftier, with a surplus worth over 1.1 billion RON (305.5 million euros). Significant surpluses were also witnessed by the state budget (472 million RON), the national health insurance fund (434.6 million RON), the budget of unemployment insurance (132.3 million RON) and the state social security budget (136.3 million RON). The state Treasury also closed the first quarter with a surplus (6.3 million RON), which caused the government securities auction that was scheduled to take place by the middle of the year to be cancelled.
