Adrian Nastase resigns

Social Democrat Party (PSD) Deputy Adrian Nastase yesterday announced he quit his position as chairman of the Chamber of Deputies. He explained that he had made the announcement during the meeting of the Permanent Bureau of this legislative body. Nastase added his decision to resign from his position as Chamber chairman would be announced in the plenum today. He thanked the Permanent Bureau members, explaining that his time spent as chairman of the Chamber of Deputies complemented his experience as a member of Parliament. Asked whether he regretted that he was no longer the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, Adrian Nastase said, "Of course I regret it, I have always felt connected to the life of Parliament and had a great deal of projects for next year." After having announced his decision to resign his position at the top of PSD and as chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, Adrian Nastase stated that he had taken the recommendation of his colleagues, adding that, to a certain extent, a "scapegoat was sought" for the problems of the party. At the same time he mentioned the possibility of PSD losing the Chamber of Deputies chairman seat. Nastase specified that he wanted to show consistency through his decision as regards to the existence of an opinion in the party that there is a crisis within the PSD. ZF
