30.10.2000, 00:00 23

Aluminium producer Alro Slatina, one of the best companies in Romania, will invest 38 million dollars next year, estimating to attain net profit of 1,638.341 billion lei.

Total revenues are expected to reach 10,594.48 billion lei next year, while total expenses will amount to 8,753.392 billion lei.

Alro shares are traded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange and its stock ranks among the best of the market, according to brokers. On Friday, Alro shares were traded for a price ranging between 17,500 and 18,000 lei, while the last transaction was closed for the price of 17,700 lei. Based on this price level, the company's stock value was standing at 113 million dollars.

Analysts say that Alro's value amounts to 350-450 million dollars, but this figure is subject to a reduction related to Romania (country risk, social issues, etc.), therefore the market value ranges between 250 and 300 million dollars. Alro will be privatised together with Alprom, another aluminium producer, which has however a much lower value.

The State Ownership Fund (SOF), the main shareholder, plans to sell the main stake in the Slatina-based company. According to the latest information, the tender will be attended by Alcoa, the world's largest aluminium producer, Pechiney, Europe's largest aluminium producer (ranking third worldwide), Casa de Comert Balli, Greek company Alumir and several financial investors.

For the first nine months of the year, Alro posted net profit worth 1,011.3 billion lei, against turnover standing at 4,862.1 billion lei. Total revenues amounted to 5,108.155 billion lei, while expenditures totalled 3,976.043 billion lei.

For next year, the company plans to make 178,000 tonnes of aluminium products and to export 71.7 percent of output, representing 127,600 tonnes of aluminium products.

The company's significant shareholders are: SOF (54.7%), Conef Bucuresti (10.5%), The Romanian Investment Company Cyprus (10%), Broadhurst Investments Limited (7.18%), Lindsell Enterprise Ltd Nicosia (0.61%), Romanian Reconst Capital Bucuresti (0.18%).
