Boc boasts about “First Home” and “manageable” budget deficit to show he actually did something as a Prime Minister

The "First Home" scheme saved 500 companies and 9,500 jobs,Premier Emil Boc told the Parliament yesterday, where he wasinvited to present a strategy for saving jobs, given that more than440,000 employees disappeared from the official statistics in 2009alone and more than 22,000 companies have gone insolvent since thebeginning of last year.

The Premier did not provide a concrete explanation as to how thecompanies and jobs were saved, but said there were encouragingsigns in the economy, which showed Romania was capable ofovercoming the economic crisis.

"The signs are starting to show, rating agencies are alreadyputting Romania on a better position, industrial output is goingup, unemployment rate is 2% lower than the European average and(there's also) the success of eurobonds on foreign markets. Theseare signs that we're heading in the right direction," the Premiersaid.

The economy fell 7% last year, and the private sector wasseverely hit by the shortage of cash and the decline in sales.
