Hypermarket network Cora, with annual sales worth 400 million euros, is preparing an opening in Pitesti, on the site of the former tyre manufacturing plant Rolast. Cora's investment in this store could amount to 20-25 million euros. Rolast applied for a permit to build a Cora hypermarket a few weeks ago, after having demolished the former plant, located in the Northern part of the city, according to representatives of the Pitesti town hall. So far, the hypermarket networks have expanded in the South of Pitesti, where Auchan and Carrefour are in competition with local retailer Pic. In turn, the Kaufland network, which also holds a hypermarket in Pitesti, will open its second store in the Northern part of the city, with the project being already underway. Cora, which operates three stores on the local market, has another two openings planned, in Bucharest and in Constanta. In Bucharest, the retailer will open a hypermarket in the Sun Plaza mall in the Berceni district in 2009. The shopping centre, with a lettable area of almost 80,000 square metres, will also include a DIY BauMax store and a Mobexpert furniture store.
