Demand for single-use packaging on the rise

09.12.2003, 00:00 9

The increasing sales of consumer goods and especially of drinks and dairy products and the higher number of fast-food restaurants have boosted the business of the single-use plastic packaging producers. "Demand has somewhat stabilised after the boom throughout 1995-1999, but is still on the rise," says Octavian Barbu, marketing manager of Amplast, one of the main domestic producers in this field. The Amplast company based in Leresti (Arges) expects to see turnover up 14.3% this year, to 6.4 million euros. Nine months through the year, turnover reached 5.1 million euros, from the 4.5 million euros in the same time last year. "The business is growing because of the demand for single-use packaging on the Romanian market, but also because of the new products introduced. The latest product range is that of packaging for the industrial sector," Barbu says. The major dairy producers such as Danone, Friesland, Prodlacta or chocolate makers Primola and Finetti spend tens of millions of euros on packaging every year. ZF
