Dufa founder makes second exit for 16 million dollars

14.04.2006, 00:00 15

Marius Ivan, one of the founders of the paints and enamels business Dufa Romania collected 16 million dollars (13 million euros) from the sale of the 35% stake held in Henkel Bautechnik Romania to the German Henkel group, according to information on the market. The company made 7 million euros in gross profit last year, while the turnover stood at 27 million euros.

Ivan is at his second exit, after having collected some 7.2 million euros from the sale of a stake in Dufa Romania business in 2004.

"The amount collected from the sale of the stake will be invested in the businesses I have in the construction supplies distribution and real estate sectors," Ivan told ZIARUL FINANCIAR.

Until recently, Marius Ivan, 48, had been general manager of Henkel Bautechnik Romania since 1999, being replaced by Wolfgang Zettl. Ivan, a trained economist, first became a businessman in early nineties, when he was importing home appliances.

Whereas he was a low profile investor on the Romanian market until two years ago, he has come out in the open this year, announcing significant investments in the businesses he owns in the real estate field, through Creativ Invest and in the field of construction supplies through Global Real Invest.

He founded the Dufa business in the nineties, which is now a top three paints and enamels producer in Romania, along with another Romanian investor, Liviu Stan and German group Meffert.

The money he made has been invested in Creativ Invest and in Global Real Invest, a business wherein the German Interpares Mobau Interbaustoff group is involved, as well. From his position as manager and entrepreneur, Ivan formed management teams to co-ordinate the businesses in which he invested

Established a year ago and controlled in full by Ivan, Global Real Invest posted 6 million euros in turnover after its first construction supplies centre opened in Pipera in the capital city.

Ivan estimates turnover will reach 160 million euros by 2010, as the development plan entails 50 million euros in investments.

Another 19 shopping centres will open in 17 cities in Romania between 2007 and 2010, at a pace of 4 to 5 such centres a year.

He says that ten million euros have been invested in the development of construction supplies distribution until now.

Simultaneously, the businessman developed the Creativ Invest Grup that specialises in the development of real estate projects.

It was established in 2004, and the North Gate Business Center in the capital city was its first major investment.

Creativ Invest Grup will erect two office buildings in northern Bucharest, by the Pipera-Tunari road, with the estimated investment value of approximately 21 million euros.

Although Creativ Invest was established last year, Ivan had been previously involved in the development of the class A project in northern Bucharest, the former Dufa headquarters, sold to a group of Irish investors in a deal estimated at 6.5 million euros last year. catalin.lupoaie@zf.ro
