Euro 2008: 6m-euro business for travel agencies

21.01.2008, 18:23 10

The qualification of the Romanian national team for the Euro 2008 football championship is expected to fetch travel agencies an additional 5 million euros in revenues, although tickets for Romania's matches will be sold exclusively through the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) and its official partner, travel agency Danco Pro. Other travel agencies will be able to offer packages, which include accommodation and transport to the matches, but the tickets must be purchased separately. The solution for travel agencies is to collaborate with foreign partners, from whom they will buy the tickets. "This year, the FRF will be the exclusive distributor of tickets allocated for Romania for the Euro 2008 championship. These are the new UEFA regulations, and those who wish to attend the competition will only be able to purchase tickets through the FRF," said Ionut Lupescu, general manager of the FRF. According to the federation's website, around 6,000 tickets are available for each of Romania's group stage matches, i.e. 18,000 tickets in total. Ticket distribution will be conducted exclusively through the federation's official partner, travel agency Danco Pro. "We have already compiled a list of pre-booked tickets, in order to test the market's interest, and so far, the number of orders has exceeded 18,000. Travel agencies can offer packages that provide transport and accommodation for championship matches, but not tickets," said Florin Leonte, vice-president of Danco Pro travel agency.
