For every new hypermarket opened, 100 small stores close

New hypermarkets often cause several tens of convenience stores to close, however, the real winners are petrol stations that stay open 24 hours and do not rely on store sales alone. What are the strategies used by petrol stations to make the most of their advantage? "For every hypermarket opened, around 100 kiosks close, which means petrol stations that stay open 24 hours are attractive for consumers," said Dan Rosu, CEO of Rompetrol Downstream, the retail division of the petroleum group. This segment is becoming increasingly important in this context, both for consumers and for producers. Last year, Rompetrol's daily average sales went up by 22%, the highest percentage in the history of the petrol station network, with the share held by store sales ranging from 15% to 25%, depending on its location. Petrom reported a 100% increase in non-oil sales last year, which accounted for 15% in the overall revenues per petrol station.
