21.07.2000, 00:00 6

Over half of the managers of the 80 representative international companies on the Romanian market, which were included in the barometer on the second quarter drawn up by financial consultancy KPMG, stated that the last three months have confirmed recovery tendencies of economic activities, shaped in the first part of the year.

Polled managers estimate that the positive trend will maintain during the following period, while only six percent of interviewees forecast a worse economic situation.

Opinions are more balanced with regard to the financial situation of the respective companies, 44 percent of the managers considering that they posted better results on the last quarter, while 42 percent say that financial parameters retained the levels posted during the first three months of the year. Less than a tenth of interviewees expect the financial situation of their companies to worsen in the near future.

The evolution of the number of employees at the level of the 80 international companies included in the study did not undergo spectacular changes during the last three months, as 38 percent of respondents report personnel rises, and 25 percent stated they had cut down the number of employees.

More than half the polled managers stated they had no reasons to operate changes in the volume of employed labour force, while 9 percent of them are preparing personnel layoffs.

Fifty percent of international companies registered a constant level of investments on the second quarter, and a third of these companies plan to allot more resources for this segment during the following three months.
