Austrians, Swiss, and French tourism industry operators havecome to Romania with maps, flyers, and brochures, while Romanianhotel and pension owners in the mountains say "we have no skiareas".

"Romania has become a very important market for us where we seekto be present with promotional campaigns, that is why we are here,"said Gordana Malic, representative of tourism organisation AtoutFrance. Austrian tourism association Amade also allocated a50,000-euro budget to promote ski resorts in Salzburg land, whichexpects up to 100,000 Romanian tourists this year.
Although Romania is one of the poorest countries in the EU, with aGDP per capita significantly lower than the European average, foreigners do not seem to be very concerned about that and sendrepresentatives of their tourist associations to attract Romanianclients to ski resorts. On the other hand, mountain areas inRomania are not promoted because of the lack of suchassociations.
"Unfortunately, Romania does not have associations because it doesnot have ski areas," said George Copos, who owns three hotels inPoiana Braşov resort via Ana Hotels company.
