The world's leading provider of research and analysis for the global IT&C industry, Gartner, Inc. will officially open an office in Bucharest in September, Hubert van Onna, Gartner's managing director for Central and Eastern Europe told Ziarul Financiar.
Gartner, which is celebrating its 25th birthday this year, is an American company present in 75 countries. The company logged $900 million turnover last year, with its portfolio including well over 10,000 companies worldwide.
The interest of market analysis providers in the Romanian IT&C market is just another indication, not only of the spectacular growth of the local market, but also of an increased interest on the part of the major companies, that need independent information for investment projects.
"Romanians pay for IT equipment and services even more than some Western companies do at times. This is precisely why we thought they would need our help," Gartner's official specified. He explained that in the case of the most extensive IT&C projects, major companies and public institutions need an independent consultant with lots of expertise in terms of evaluating the costs and benefits of such investments.
Gartner's move comes almost two years after its main rival, International Data Corp (IDC) opened its Romania office. However, Gartner's representative was at pains to point out that he did not regard IDC as a direct competitor. "We are not interested in the statistical data of the local market. Gartner analyses the quality of the service or product provided to clients by suppliers and offers consulting so that IT&C projects can be successful. One can save a lot of money when one has a good advisor," he added.
Gartner is a company that devised its own IT&C market analysis technology, based on the statistical data and trends apparent on the market. Managers of Western companies regard Gartner's advice as something of a gold mine. This is precisely why the multinational companies operating in Romania are mostly Gartner clients.
