Generali, 34% increase in nine months

Generali Asigurari (Generali Insurance), ranked eighth on the market in 2006, closed the first nine months of the year with gross underwritten premiums worth 281 million RON (85.2 million euros), up 34% against the same time last year. On the general insurance segment, sales reached 238.5 million RON (72.3 million euros) at the end of September, up 30% against the first nine months of 2006. Gross underwritten premiums from car insurance witnessed a 46% increase, to 172 million RON (52.1 million euros), while goods and properties insurance rose 20%, to 46.7 million RON (around 14.1 million euros). During the same period, underwriting from life insurance climbed 57%, to 42.4 million RON (almost 12.9 million euros). "We should note that Generali Asigur`ri witnessed increases for all types of insurance and that the company generated a profit during the above-mentioned period. The improvement in our results was helped by the controlled expansion of our portfolio, by the improved claim settlement rate, particularly on the car insurance segment, where we introduced a new rate calculation system, which is determined by the vehicle and its owner," said Tudor Moldovan, the company's general manager.
