Generali premiums up 160%, to 38m euros

Generali Asigurari (Generali Insurance) reported gross underwritten premiums worth 37.8 million euros, a 160% increase in euros against the first half of 2005, the company announced on Tuesday. For 2006 as a whole, the company estimates business worth 64.8 million euros, an 80% increase against 2005. "For the whole year, the total turnover will probably stand at 230 million euros, for general and life insurance together," Tudor Moldovan, chairman and general manager of the insurance company told ZF. "Depending on the claim settlement trend, we expect to be even in 2006 or a little above that," he added. For the time being, the company has not provided any estimates on the profit for the first six months of the year. On the segment of general insurance, gross underwritten premiums stood at 32.6 million euros and at 5.2 million euros for life insurance. The company's growth was mainly driven by general insurance, where the pace was of 160% in RON, against the life insurance segment, where the growth was of 110% in RON.
