Holcim targets 74 million euros in turnover

18.12.2001, 00:00 8

Swiss group Holcim Romania estimates turnover of 73.5 million euros in 2002, 5% higher as compared to 2001, as the domestic cement market will go up by 5-10% next year, Albert Szabo, director of the group's concrete and aggregate division, told Ziarul Financiar.

Holcim Romania is hoping for "modest" yet very significant profit in 2002, as it would be the first loss-free year since 1997, when the group entered the market.

Holcim Romania launched the first ecological concrete station in Romania last Friday, an investment worth more than one million dollars.

The new station has a capacity of 120 cubic metres / hour and is the first in a total of five ecological stations, which will all become operational in 2002, according to Holcim Romania representatives.

The other four stations, which will need total investments of four million dollars, are located in Brasov (a station that will undergo retooling works), Craiova, Cluj and Ploiesti.

Holcim Romania investments scheduled for 2002 will total 15 million dollars, with four million dollars allotted to the ecological stations.

The rest of the money will aim at installing the new IT system in the company's new headquarters, retooling the cement factories (Campulung, Alesd and Turda), training and logistics for cement distribution, Holcim Romania officials say.

"Over the next 4-5 years, the group will invest about 100 million dollars in Romania in modernising production facilities, improving environment protection methods and expanding the core activity," Szabo maintained.

The Swiss group also announced plans to increase its market share to 30 percent.
