07.08.2006, 19:20 8

HVB Bank Romania and Banca Tiriac posted a net profit worth 99 million RON (some 28 million euros) in the first six months of the year, with total assets standing at 9.27 billion RON (some 2.6 billion euros), the two lenders said in a release on Monday. In the first six months of the year, HVB Bank Romania posted a net profit worth 73 million RON, a 7% increase against the same period last year, while Banca Tiriac reported a net profit worth 26 million RON, reads a joint release of the two banks. HVB assets dropped by some 7.5%, to 5.87 billion RON, which can be explained through the transfer of part of the new credit portfolio to the parent bank in Austria, following restrictions imposed by the National Bank of Romania (NBR) on lending. "Due to the restrictions imposed by the NBR on the granting of credits in foreign currency in October 2005, which led to HVB Bank Romania registering part of its new credit portfolio at Bank Austria Creditanstalt, total assets reached 5.87 billion RON, only 7.58% lower than in 2005," reads the release.
