Iaki managers are optimistic

Investments for upgrading Mamaia-based hotel Iaki, owned by former football player Gheorghe Hagi, will be recovered in 25 years, according to those managing the business of the current coach of Romania's national soccer team. Iaki was dedicated on July 5.

"If we had set a 10-15 years objective, we would have had to charge unaffordable prices, while we expect to have an average accommodation degree of 80%, which is the optimistic variant. But, under the pessimistic scenario, if the hotel does not become profitable over the next 5-10 years, we will have to close it down or sell it," Tanase Mega, economic manager with SC Hagi Sport SRL, told Ziarul Financiar.

Hagi Sport company took over the former Bucuresti Hotel from Mamaia company in leasing with an irrevocable purchasing clause, Mega added.

He did not care to mention the amounts invested in the hotel by the well-known football player.

Iaki has 60 rooms (26 apartments, 22 studios, 6 penthouses and 6 singles), all equipped with mini-bars, air-conditioned and TV sets.

Iaki is a four-star hotel and has a luxury restaurant, a confectionery, a terrace and a pizzeria. It also has two pools, a fully equipped conference hall, as well as a luxury store.

The accommodation prices are 100 dollars for single rooms, 125 dollars for studios, while the accommodation in apartments costs 175 dollars. A luxury apartment costs 210 dollars/night.

Tanase Mega maintains that the former football player is planning to expand his businesses throughout the country, but only where one can do business, namely "where bribery is not a must."

Many Romanian football players are choosing tourism for placing their investments in Romania. This is the case of Ioan Timofte at Timisoara and Adrian Ilie at Poiana Brasov.
