Luxury cars arrive in Romania ahead of Europe

26.06.2006, 18:10 18

The growing number of wealthy customers willing to pay hundreds of thousands of euros to buy a Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Maserati or Maybach has made domestic importers rush to present the new models at the same time as or even before their Western European launches. Porsche Romania, the importer on the domestic market of the luxury Porsche brand, launched the 911 Turbo sports car model, one day before being officially introduced in showrooms across Europe. With the price starting at 140,000 euros, the black model on display in the Pipera-based showroom of the importer has already found a buyer, while several other units are on their way to "businessmen or top managers," says Catalin Iovanescu, Porsche brand manager in Romania. At the same time, the TiriacAuto show organised by the automotive division of the group of companies held by businessman Ion Tiriac, which ended at the Romexpo Complex in Bucharest yesterday, had several other expensive car models on display for more than a week, whose price is well over 100,000 euros. The most expensive model displayed, Mercedes SRL McLaren, costs 530,000 euros, while Mercedes SL 65 AMG's price was about 200,000 euros. The SLR McLaren had been brought by carmaker DaimlerChrysler especially for this event, where the TiriacAuto officials had signed - according to the latest information, at least one pre-contract for a car worth over 100,000 euros. The over 150 car models of all price ranges on display at TiriacAuto had a cumulated value of 5 million euros.
