Marco wants Alro as Alprom shareholder

03.03.2003, 00:00 15

Aluminium producer Alro Slatina could become the majority shareholder of Alprom Slatina next month, as planned by the American trade company Marco International that controls the two producers. Alprom's acquisition by Alro will be done by transfer of the controlling interests bought by Marco International from the Romanian State last year. Once Alro takes over the controlling interests, it will also acquire all the rights and obligations stipulated in the privatisation contract of Alprom. The stake Marco International bought upon privatisation accounts for 69.92% of Alprom. The American trade company holds another 17.1% in the company through Conef and Marco Acquisition. The consortium controlled by Marco International holds about 78% in Alro. Alprom's takeover by Alro will simplify the two companies' shareholding structure. Subsequently, Marco International will remain majority shareholder in Alro only, which in its turn will control Alprom.  At the same time, this takeover could be the first step towards a merger of the two entities.
