Mercedes-Benz drops Chrysler imports

Mercedes-Benz Romania, one of the top five automotive importerswith such brands as Mercedes-Benz, smart, Jeep and Chrysler in itsportfolio might drop distribution of the three Chrysler brands thisyear, given that Daimler AG, which owns the Mercedes brand is nolonger a shareholder of American carmaker Chrysler.

"We can confirm the talks about the future of the Chrysler, Jeepand Dodge vehicle distribution business in Romania. No decision hasbeen made yet," said Michael Grewe, CEO and chairman ofMercedes-Benz Romania.

The three brands of the US group sold 552 units worth 16 millioneuros last year, according to ZF estimates, accounting for almost5% of the total Mercedes-Benz Romania business.

The US group is now controlled by the Italians at Fiat, whobought 20% in Chrysler after the company filed for Chapter 11bankruptcy protection in the first half of last year.
