29.08.2006, 19:54 13

Petrom, the largest company to have become part of the portfolio of Austria's petroleum group OMV, has announced it will invest approximately 100 million euros in an accounting and IT services centre, to service all its divisions, the exploration and production unit, the refining and marketing unit and the natural gas and chemical product units. The new centre will be called Petrom Solutions and will be located in Bucharest, with the project set to be completed by 2009. This centre will be used to coordinate all the operations of the company throughout the entire country. "We will invest up to 100 million euros in the next few years in order to build this service centre. Market surveys and experience enable us to believe this could be the biggest financial and IT services centre in SE Europe. This is a very large project, and an important step in Petrom's modernisation programme," says Reinhard Pichler, the financial manager of the company. About 1,200 employees will be working for Petrom Solutions, most of whom will come from the staff of the Financial and IT departments. The staff has been mainly recruited from Petrom's employees. The company posted 1.42 billion RON (403 million euros) net profit in the first half, 2.3 times higher than the corresponding period of 2005, because of the fast-paced rise in the petroleum price worldwide and the increase in the amount of product sold.
