Popoviciu breathing down Copos' neck on hotel front

08.01.2009, 17:41 5

Businessman Gabriel Puiu Popoviciu, known for his involvement in real estate project Baneasa, is quickly approaching the revenues of hotels held by George Copos on the Bucharest market, Hilton and Crowne Plaza, with the turnover derived by the three hotels he controls, namely Howard Johnson, Ramada Plaza and Ramada Parc. Popoviciu and Copos are the biggest hotel owners in Bucharest in terms of revenues generated by the 850 and 440 rooms, respectively. While Popoviciu has already left Copos behind in terms of number of hotels and of rooms, Copos is still ahead in terms of stars and revenues. The three hotels owned by Popoviciu amount to a 28-29 million-euro turnover, while Crowne Plaza and Hilton posted 31-32 million euros last year, according to ZF calculations. The revenue gap could be bridged this year, considering that Ramada Plaza was opened in March last year, and has yet to reach its full potential in terms of revenue.
