Quadrant Amroq Beverages to build its second factory in Romania

02.07.2003, 00:00 19

Quadrant Amroq Beverages (QAB), Pepsi's bottler in Romania will invest $7 million in building a new factory in Covasna.

The factory to be dedicated in May next year is something special, indeed, considering none of the major foreign soft drinks bottlers has made any investments in new factories over the last few years. The facility will be located on a 30,000 sqm plot of land, 6,500 sqm of which occupied by buildings.

The representatives of the company that has recently announced it will start making the Lipton Ice Tea, following a partnership with Unilever, say the investment will allow expanding distribution. "The construction of a new QAB factory - our first facility is the one in Bucharest, meets the increasing production needs of the company. The Covasna area was chosen for this project because it facilitates the efficient distribution process throughout the whole country and allows using the existing mineral water resources," QAB's general manager Mihai Matyas said.

The factory will produce all the brands in the company's portfolio, that is Pepsi, Lipton Ice Tea, Prigat, Kick and the Perla mineral waters.

QAB is currently employing 930 people and posted 52% turnover growth in Q1, compared with the same time last year.

The soft drinks market amounted to approximately $250 million last year, according to a survey of the ACNielsen Romania market research company.

Sales of mineral water are estimated to total 280 million euros this year.
