Raul Ciurtin invests 6m euros in new business

20.02.2008, 20:07 12

Raul Ciurtin, chairman and one of the shareholders of dairy producer Albalact, based in Alba county, has, in cooperation with another two partners, invested 6 million euros in the construction of a canned meat and pre-cooked canned food plant, in Oiejdea, close to Alba-Iulia. The construction of the plant will end in early summer, when production is due to start, while shareholders are involved in the creation of the brand under which the new products will be sold. "We saw this segment as an opportunity, and we decided to start this investment as long ago as last year," said Ciurtin, who holds 40% the company that manages the plant, Casa Alba. Ioan Darzu, former general manager of Albalact, and current member of the company's Board of Directors, became a partner and holds a 20% stake, according to data from the Trade Registry. "Ioan Darzu will also be the general manager of the canned meat plant," added Ciurtin. The canned meat market (canned pat? excluded) and the pre-cooked canned food market are still highly undeveloped compared with other European states, but competition on this segment is becoming tighter.
