Romsys updates Sidex

15.04.2004, 00:00 9

Romanian company Romsys, one of the largest domestic integrators of IT&C systems for the industry and the financial-banking system, has completed the upgrade and expansion of the communications system of steel mill ISPAT Sidex Galat, under a contract worth more than one million dollars.

The communications system that secures the proper functioning of the steel mill has an exceptional size: 70 km of optical fibre and over 700 connections for final users. Romsys completed the project in six months.

In fact, speed was an essential condition that Sidex imposed when selecting the company that was to update the "nervous system" of the plant.

As primary contractor and system integrator, Romsys designed the infrastructure, supplied the necessary equipment, installed, tested and implemented the integrated communication solution.

The investment efficiency called for the integration of the plant's old communication structure and the operation of the updated system by the same personnel. ISPAT Sidex also requested Romsys to guarantee the endurance of the communication network in an aggressive industrial environment. Another condition required that the integrated system should be implemented in such a way as not to affect the plant's production process.

"The optical fibre network's upgrade, expansion and integration, as well as the integration of all active network elements were achieved without hindering or halting production," said Liviu Niculaescu, operational manager with Romsys.

Using state-of-the-art equipment supplied by the world leading companies, the infrastructure created by Romsys allows numerous subsequent updating and development of other solutions, such as teleconferences or videoconferences.
