Sales of electronics and IT&C products continue to go down

The domestic consumer goods market contracted by 15% to 266meuros in the second quarter, from 316m euros, according to a surveyby GfK market research firm, with the value being lower than in thefirst quarter, of 271m euros.


In the IT field, sales slid by 20.5% to 69m euros. According toGfK, notebooks boasted the biggest sales among all the products onthis segment, but could not reverse the negative trend of theoverall market.
Nevertheless, the research company points out that the declineslowed down against the first quarter of 2010, when the marketdropped by 38.2% to 80m euros.
Also, Romanians spent 28.5% less on mobile phones in the secondquarter against a year ago, with the hardware telecom markethitting 39m euros. The office equipment segment saw sales go downby 28.9%, the weakest trend among those monitored by GfK in thesecond quarter.
The field of consumer electronics was the only one among thosewatched by GfK that expanded in the second quarter. The market grewby 1.3%, reaching sales of 55m euros, with the products in highestdemand being flat screen TV sets and video game consoles. For therest of electronics, growth rates stayed in negativeterritory.
